This is my go-to steak marinade. I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to put this up on the blog; I’ve been using this recipe for a quick and easy base for steak tips for at least five years, and it’s totally worth sharing.
Maybe the final push to post is the fact that David and I are now able to grill our steak tips outside (!) over a flame. For the past few years, I’ve been using a grill pan or even pan searing my steak tips, but it’s so exciting to be able to head outside on a warm summer night and fire up the grill. The good news is that the marinade works well with whichever cooking method you use.
Over time, I’ve found that allowing the steaks to marinate for two hours gives them the best flavor, but even just a quick 30 minutes can get the job done, so they’re a nice option for hectic nights or friends that turn up on short notice.
1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
4 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1/8 cup Worcestire sauce
ground black pepper
1. Combine all the ingredients together in a small bowl or directly into a zip-lock bag and mix well.
Grilled Marinated Steak Tips
1. Add 1 pound steak tips to the steak marinade in a zip-lock bag. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes, ideally up to 2 hours, flipping the steaks over halfway through.
2. Cook on the grill or a greased grill pan until medium rare (or longer, if you want), flipping once, usually about 4 minutes on each side.
