Sunday Morning Coffee: July 31, 2016

Sunday Coffee Year of YesWoke up to a dreary gray morning after not getting nearly enough sleep (stayed up late reading + an early rising toddler). My Sunday morning included lots of coffee and then, thankfully, a nap. David took the baby for a walk and came back with these flowers. And now the day is brightening and it’s the baby’s turn to nap. Hopefully. As I’m writing this, she’s been tossing and turning without sleeping or crying for an hour and a half. We’ll see how this goes.

Here’s what I’m reading and eating this week:

Year of Yes

Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes

As a current fan of Scandal and semi-fan of Grey’s Anatomy, at least its earlier seasons, I was curious to read Shonda Rhimes’ autobiography. Maybe a few months ago I picked it up from the library but didn’t get very far because like the dialogue in her shows, the writing was choppy, staccato, and slightly repetitive. What works wonderfully in her shows wasn’t working for me on the page. This week, though, I streamed the audiobook, ready by the author (which I love – yay!), and it was a totally different experience. Enjoyable and entertaining

“This requires thought. This requires wine. Glass of wine in hand, I drink about the question. ‘Why would I have said no?’ But I knew the answer. I knew the answer before I got out of bed, I just wanted the wine.”

What I’m eating this week (in case you need a little meal-planning inspiration):
Sunday: Dinner out celebrating my dad’s arrival for a brief visit at No. 9 Park
Monday: Cold pasta salad with chicken and grapes
Tuesday: Claire’s shrimp scampi and steak tips
Wednesday: Harvest restaurant at lunch, leftovers at dinner with a nice bottle of Amarone while watching Somm: Into the Bottle
Thursday: Linguine al fresco (with tomatoes, basil, and chicken)
Friday: Leftover linguine
Saturday: Hawaiian pizza
